Every Thursday in North Tulsa, Oklahoma, a food truck pulls into a church parking lot. While serving meals, they are sharing something deeper: hope.
North Tulsa is a region of the city shaped by a legacy of resilience and hardship. It remains a community marked by both deep need and deep strength. Generations of economic disparity, food insecurity, and family instability created tangible physical challenges. Decades of trauma and marginalization left spiritual and emotional wounds as well.
In this context, Bridging Hunger, led by Pastor Rod Baker, provides hot meals, groceries, and essentials to families in need. Inside every bag is a copy of the Book of Hope, offering the message of Jesus to those who receive it.
A Child’s Invitation Sparks a Chain Reaction
One afternoon, three boys passed by the outreach. At first hesitant, they accepted the invitation to get some free food. Among them was 11-year-old Byron.
That day, everything changed.
After being served a meal, the boys were offered prayer, and each one gave their life to Jesus. But Byron wasn’t finished. Just 30 minutes later, he came running back, bringing his half-brother with him.
“He also wanted prayer and food,” the team shared.
That same day, his half-brother gave his life to Christ, too.
The following week, Byron returned, this time with his cousin. Another life was transformed.
Week after week, Byron kept coming, bringing others to encounter Jesus.
Hope Reaches Home
One day, Byron arrived pushing a shopping cart, gathering food to take home. Later, a car pulled into the lot. Inside were Byron’s mother and another parent, concerned that he was late getting home from school.
When Byron explained what he had been doing, his mother was overwhelmed.
“She started to cry,” the team recalled.
That moment led to something even greater: both women received prayer and encountered Jesus themselves.
In just three weeks, seven members of Byron’s household gave their lives to Christ.
From Receiving to Sharing
Among the many families served was a young boy named Maverick.
He and his mother first came to receive groceries. Like every family, they were given a Book of Hope. But instead of simply taking it home, something stirred in them—they chose to stay and help.
Maverick quickly became passionate about sharing what he had received.
Though still a child, he began handing out copies of the Book of Hope to other kids, eager for them to know Jesus, too. His faith wasn’t quiet—it was bold and visible.
He now carries a small cross in his pocket to school every day and actively shares his faith with friends.
A Ripple Effect of Transformation
What started with one invitation for a free meal has now impacted hundreds.
In just three weeks:
- Over 300 people received food and essentials
- 192 individuals gave their lives to Jesus
But beyond the numbers are stories. Children are becoming evangelists, families are being restored, and communities are encountering God’s love.
Byron brought his family.
Maverick is reaching his friends.
And the message continues to spread.
A Living Testimony of Hope
This is the power of God’s Word in action.
Through a simple act of compassion, food given freely, hearts are opening, lives are changing, and young voices are rising to share the Gospel.
From the streets of Tulsa to school hallways and homes, hope is multiplying.
Know someone who needs encouragement?
Share this story and remind them that one encounter with God’s Word can change everything.
