For thousands of families in Venezuela, life changed in a matter of seconds.
On June 24, two powerful earthquakes struck the country’s north-central coast, leaving homes uninhabitable and forcing thousands of people into temporary shelters. Two months later, families are still navigating the effects of sudden displacement.
For many children, that means adjusting to unfamiliar surroundings while processing fear, grief, uncertainty, and significant change.
In moments like these, no single organization can meet every need. This is why partnership matters.
Creating a Safe Place in the Midst of Crisis
On July 25, Christian Broadcasting Network’s (CBN) Superbook team held a special event for more than 75 children affected by the earthquakes, working in partnership with OneHope as part of the broader disaster response. Together with Operation Blessing, Fundación Charis, and local volunteers, the teams created a day designed to care for children physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
The children began by watching an episode of Superbook, CBN’s animated Bible series that brings stories from Scripture to life and helps them discover biblical truth in an engaging, age-appropriate way.
From there, they moved through activity stations featuring face painting, balloon art, music, creative activities, emotional care, and prayer. Operation Blessing provided a meal for children staying at the temporary shelter, while OneHope provided Scripture engagement resources such as the Superbook Book of Hope that they could take home with them.
This way, once children met Superbook characters like Chris, Joy, and Gizmo on screen, they could then encounter them again in the book they carried home to continue exploring Scripture with their families.
For a few hours, children had space to play, laugh, express themselves, learn, pray, and simply be children again.
Alongside the fun, the teams also recognized that many children were still processing the complex emotions that come with sudden displacement. Some spoke about friends who were frightened or sad, while others were learning how to adjust to life alongside many other families in shared temporary spaces.
Volunteers created safe opportunities for children to talk about what they were feeling, pray about what they had experienced, and learn practical ways to navigate their new surroundings with patience, kindness, and care for one another.
Then the conversation went one step further.
When children talked about friends who were afraid or hurting, leaders showed them that they could become a source of support too. They could listen. They could encourage. They could pray with a friend.
Even while navigating their own difficult circumstances, these children were discovering that they could carry hope to someone else.
Stronger Together
The event offered a glimpse of what becomes possible when ministries bring their different strengths together around the same need.
The Superbook team brought Scripture to life through animated storytelling and child-focused activities. Operation Blessing supported immediate physical needs as part of its broader humanitarian response. Fundación Charis and local volunteers brought relationships and hands-on care within the community. And OneHope came alongside the response with volunteers and Scripture engagement resources that children could continue using long after the event ended.
Together, those contributions created a more holistic experience than any single partner could have provided alone.
“The strategic alliance with CBN’s Superbook team has been a profound blessing for our country,” said Jessica Riccardi, OneHope National Director of Venezuela. “In the current context following the recent earthquake, bringing the messaging of God’s Word to the shelters – through the love expressed in this initiative – has served as a fundamental pillar of comfort and hope.”
Staying Present After the Crisis
An event cannot erase what these children have experienced.
Recovery will take time, and many families continue to navigate displacement, uncertainty, and the emotional effects of disaster. That is precisely why continued presence and partnership matter.
“We are grateful for how the Lord always does more than we can imagine with what we give through Superbook,” said Sandra Anderson, CBN Director of Operations for Latin America. “Eternity will best reveal the impact we have had.”
For OneHope, collaboration means recognizing that no single ministry can bring every answer. Instead, each partner brings what God has entrusted to them, and when those strengths come together, the next generation can be served in deeper and more meaningful ways.
In Venezuela, this looked like a meal and a Bible story, play and prayer, emotional care and Scripture, and a safe place to talk and people willing to listen.
And for more than 75 children navigating an uncertain season, it meant something more: a day filled with laughter, people who cared, and God’s Word to carry home.
Even when circumstances change in an instant, the hope of Jesus remains. And together, partnerships such as CBN and OneHope are helping children encounter this hope.
