A Christmas Gift that Changes Everything

You brought hope to young hearts last Christmas when you helped launch a special outreach in a majority-Buddhist Asian nation. You did it by offering a unique gift: a special holiday edition of Book of Hope

Twelve-year-old Barun received the book, The Gift That Changes Everything, during the festive season when excitement and joy fill the air — even in places where the true meaning of Christmas remains unknown.

Barun was once a struggling student, often restless and disobedient, causing constant worry for his family. But this Christmas gift would change everything …

➔ “As I delved into its pages, I encountered the love and sacrifice of Jesus for the first time,” Barun remembers. “This was more than a book — it was an introduction to a newfound friend in Jesus.”

The message of hope bloomed in Barun’s heart, sparking a complete transformation!

Today, Barun is a changed young man. He’s become obedient to his parents, is enthusiastic about school, and finds daily strength in prayer. What started as a simple Christmas gift became a life-changing encounter with God’s love — a testament to how your generous support reaches children in the most unexpected ways.

Last Christmas, you didn’t just give a book. You provided a gift of eternal hope. Thank you!

Fast Facts: Christmas in Asia
  • Christmas (Dec. 25) is a public holiday in South Korea, the Philippines, and some sensitive nations, even with small Christian populations.
  • In Japan and South Korea, “Christmas cake” — a white sponge cake with strawberries — is a beloved tradition.
  • New Taipei City’s Christmasland event draws nearly 8 million visitors with lights, concerts, and a towering tree.

Across Asia, festive lights and gifts create openness to the Gospel. Christmas in Asia is active in 26 countries — including some that are hostile to Christianity — making the season a powerful opportunity to share God’s Word and the true reason for Christmas.

Nayeem's Story of Hope: Where Roads Don’t Reach, God’s Word Did

In a quiet farming village in a majority-Muslim nation, 13-year-old Nayeem had never heard the story of Jesus. Life in his rural community is simple and isolated — far from the opportunities of the city, and even farther from the message of the Gospel.

That changed when, through a holiday outreach made possible by your generosity, Nayeem received a Scripture book called The Gift That Changes Everything.

As he read it, Nayeem encountered Jesus for the first time. “I discovered a treasure that surpasses all worldly possessions — the knowledge of Jesus Christ,” he said. The story of Jesus’ birth and the message of salvation captured his heart. “Jesus is a gift beyond measure,” he shared. “His teachings are now very important to me.”

Thanks to your faithful support, Nayeem’s life — and eternity — have been forever changed. In a place where it’s difficult to access God’s Word, you helped open a young heart to the Gospel. Thank you for helping make the impossible possible.

“Jesus is a gift beyond measure … His teachings are now very important to me.”

A Christmas in Asia Story from Vietnam: God’s Word in the Marketplace

Lien, a Vietnamese Christian, heard about the Christmas Story event, planned by our partners to deliver God’s Word — along with candy and snacks — to children and youth in north and central Vietnam.

Lien has her own storefront in a busy marketplace in her town and requested 50 gift sets to give to children at her stall, using the books to tell them about Jesus. Twelve of those children chose to follow Christ. Praise God!

And Lien’s simple act of faith was part of something much bigger:

Because of your support, the Christmas Story event reached 43,782 children and families in Vietnam. Over 16,700 children and more than 2,500 adults said yes to Jesus.

Thank you for helping bring the Gospel to life during Christmas in Asia!

From Shy and Silent to Joyfully Serving: Reaksa’s Journey to Jesus

In a quiet village in Cambodia, 11-year-old Reaksa lived a reserved life. The oldest child in her family, she cared for her newborn sister while her mother worked at a factory and her father fixed motorcycles. At school, she rarely spoke and kept to herself — until a friend invited her to a Christmas celebration at the local church.

There, Reaksa received Manga Manger, a colorful book that told the story of Jesus. Page by page, her heart softened. On page 9, she saw the shepherds visit baby Jesus and realized He came for all, even the overlooked. On pages 18–19, the story of friends bringing a paralyzed man to Jesus taught her about love, friendship, and faith.

Reaksa began to change. She asked for prayer before a big school exam — and later returned to church to thank Jesus for helping her succeed as a top student.

Now she’s full of joy and always at church — praying, helping, and serving. She even volunteers to teach and care for younger kids every week.

Because of your support of Christmas in Asia, children like Reaksa are discovering Jesus — even in places where few know His name. Thank you for helping open hearts at just the right moment.

The Greatest Gift

By OneHope President Rob Hoskins

A sense of anticipation fills the house in the days leading up to Christmas, and I love how my grandchildren’s eyes grow wide with excitement as they get to tear into their presents that morning.

In many cultures, the celebration of Christmas is primarily marked by gift-giving. Researchers tell us that U.S. shoppers will, on average, spend almost $1,000 this holiday season, most of it on shopping. Some people spend months saving, planning, and finally purchasing that perfect gift for their loved ones, but no gift bought in a store compares to the truly perfect gift of Christ in a manger.

The commercialization of Christmas is on the rise. Each year, companies invest substantial resources to promote the holiday season and push their offerings — which has actually benefited Kingdom work.

Global interest in holiday festivities means opportunities to present people with the Gospel — the true story of Christmas. OneHope’s global Christmas outreaches have grown exponentially over the years. In 2011, we distributed a little over 500,000 copies of our Christmas-edition Book of Hope throughout the Asia- Pacific region. By God’s grace, this year throughout Asia- Pacific, Southern Asia, and Eurasia we’ll reach 11 million!

I have always known that Christmas is an important season for ministry, but these numbers remind me just how wide open the door is for sharing the Good News because of the importance countries around the world place on this holiday.

We’ll reach 11 million young people through Christmas outreaches this year. Each one of these millions is a child with a story, with hopes and dreams, just like my own grandchildren. I am praying that these young people will have powerful encounters with God’s Word as they learn how Christ, the greatest gift to humanity, arrived in this world.

LATIN AMERICA

Nine-year-old Florencia loved our youth film Rose, about a young motorcycle racer who learns through hardship to rely on Jesus. “When Rose felt alone, she chose to draw near to Jesus,” Florencia said. “I’ve felt sad sometimes, too, and this reminded me I can talk to Jesus in those moments.”

SENSITIVE AREA

Navita has been attending the kids club at her local church and learning God’s Word from the Superbook program. She’s sharing what she learns at church with her parents — and they’ve had a positive response. We’re praying they will choose Jesus.

SENSITIVE AREA

Thiri received a Christmas Book of Hope last year and today says, “I had never known what Christianity is about before. Now I know that Christ gave His own life at the cross for the sins of humanity.” She has chosen to follow Jesus!

From Nightmares to New Life: A Family Transformed

In a small Buddhist community in Asia, three children were tormented often by nightmares.

But then they began attending a weekly kids club meeting sponsored by the local church.

They sang songs, played games, and learned about Jesus. Over time, their bad dreams stopped, replaced by peace and joy. Their transformation caught the attention of their parents.

Curious, their mother visited the church a year later to see her children dance in a special program— and her heart softened toward the Gospel. But it wasn’t until Kaysone, the children’s father, fell seriously ill that the whole family’s journey came full circle.

While recovering from a long hospital stay, Kaysone picked up the Christmas Book of Hope the children had brought home. As he read through the pages — part of the previous year’s Christmas in Asia outreach — he was deeply moved by the message of God’s love.

“I read the book and felt God’s love,” Kaysone said. “When I finished, I went to the pastor and said I wanted to believe in Jesus.”

His wife prayed with him, and their whole family gave their lives to Christ. Soon after, Kaysone asked for prayer for a job — and three days later, God answered.

Today, the family of five worships together every Sunday, living in the joy and freedom of new life in Christ.

Their story is just one of thousands made possible by your support of Christmas in Asia. Through a simple book filled with Scripture and hope, entire families are being transformed — proving once again that when a child hears about Jesus, eternity can begin to change for generations.

Thank you for being part of this miracle.
