How Digital Ministry Met Masuyo in Her Loneliness

Masuyo is only 17, but already, she’s been through more than many adults ever will.

Living alone in Japan with no family support, Masuyo is trying to finish school while working to survive. Abandoned and isolated, she had nowhere to turn. But when she stumbled upon a video from O&Dan, something shifted.

In a society where expressing personal struggles is taboo, O&Dan offers a rare refuge. The digital Scripture-engagement platform—designed and illustrated by the OneHope Japan team—asks deep questions about life, love, and purpose. With soft visuals, poetic storytelling, and culturally attuned music, it gently opens doors that are usually locked shut in Japanese youth culture.

Masuyo began watching. Then she started chatting.

Through OneHope’s network of trained online missionaries, Masuyo connected with someone who truly listened. For Masuyo, it wasn’t just a conversation. It was a turning point.

When the online missionary  asked if she would be open to visiting a church, Masuyo said yes. A local congregation with a ministry focused on emotional and practical restoration welcomed her in. The program offered her tools to rebuild emotionally, spiritually, and tangibly.

Now, Masuyo is connected both to the church and the online missionary. She’s no longer completely alone. A digital program sparked her first step toward faith and family.

Japan has one of the highest suicide rates among young people. Many, like Masuyo, suffer in silence. But through programs like O&Dan, OneHope is reaching these seekers right where they are: on their screens, in their language, and in their pain.

Masuyo’s story is just one of many. But it reminds us why we go to new places and use new methods: because every child and youth deserves to know Jesus through His Word.

Share Masuyo’s story and help others see how digital ministry is reaching isolated young people with the hope of Jesus.
