How a Sick Teen Found Healing and Hope in Christ

In a quiet corner of Southern Asia, where narrow streets wind through tightly knit neighborhoods and Christian faith is not easily welcomed, a young girl named Tanya was quietly carrying a burden no one else could see.

Tanya was in eighth grade, living a simple life in a rural village where her days revolved around walking to school, helping with chores at home, and occasionally visiting the local market with her parents. 

Until one day, gripped by stomach pain, she visited the doctor with her parents and received troubling news: a stone had formed in her stomach. Fear and uncertainty settled over her home.

As worry set in, Tanya didn’t attend school for a few days. In the stillness of being at home, Tanya found something she’d nearly forgotten: a OneHope Book of Hope she had once received from a team of church volunteers. She had tucked it away in her room, unread.

Now, with time on her hands and questions in her heart, she opened the book.

What she found were stories about Jesus. As she read, she became curious about God. She walked to the church where she had received the book and asked for more. There, she shared her illness with someone from the congregation—and they prayed with her.

Something shifted.

Her health began to improve. Her fear was replaced with peace. And soon after, Tanya made the most important decision of her life: she accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior.

Tanya’s story didn’t end there. Her newfound faith became a spark of light in her community. Inspired by the change in her life, five others have come to the church and are now seeking God, too.

From illness and fear to joy and influence, Tanya is now a regular part of the fellowship—growing in faith, sharing her story, and reminding us that even in the hardest-to-reach places, God’s Word is transforming lives.
