From Self-Doubt to Boldness

In Buhiga, a semi-urban community in Burundi in Africa, the streets are filled with people from a variety of faith traditions— Catholics, Protestants, Muslims, and those with no religious affiliation.

Despite this religious diversity, there is a quiet harmony in the way people live side by side. At the Lycée de l’Espérance, a local high school, 17-year-old Diane started to learn more about herself and the God who saw her.

For most of her life, Diane had quietly struggled with shame. Growing up in poverty, she felt invisible, inferior to others, and overwhelmed by the feeling that her origins determined her worth.

Even though she attended classes and fulfilled her responsibilities, she was consumed by a deep sense of doubt that no one else could perceive.

Everything began to change, when her school received copies of the Unstoppable Book of Hope, a program designed for teens girls who have gone through difficult situations in life and have lost faith in God.

Intrigued, Diane opened the book. What she found was not just an additional school resource, but a message that spoke directly to her heart. These words helped her understand that her identity did not come from her circumstances, but from a loving God who saw her, knew her, and had a purpose for her life. For the first time, Diane began to believe that she was more than her past.

The message of Unstoppable not only transformed her way of thinking, it also sparked something bold within her. Diane knew she couldn’t keep this discovery to herself. She began reaching out to girls at her school, many of whom carried the same silent pain she once had. With courage and compassion, she began sharing about the love of God.

Six girls have chosen to follow Christ because of her testimony. Six lives have been transformed, not because of a grand stage or a resounding sermon, but because of a young girl who found her voice and chose to use it.

Diane’s story is still unfolding, but her journey shows what happens when a heart is transformed by truth. In a place where many young people are still searching for their identity, she is becoming a light of hope, proving that God can raise up leaders in the most unexpected places.

Help us spread the message of hope. Share this story and remind others that Jesus still transforms lives today.
